Acts 17:28

God’s Promise – “Your life comes from Me because you are My offspring.”

There’s a quote which says, “All life is a breath exhaled by God. All dying is a breath inhaled by God.” Paul understood this well. And he was grieved when he found the Athenians, who prided themselves on their arts and philosophy, worshipping false idols. So in ministering to them about God, Paul appealed to them using reason, citing examples from their own Greek poets. He taught that we are all offspring of God. And as His children we live, move, and exist in Him. We live because as Creator of all things, God is the source of life. We move because as Ruler of our lives, our hearts, thoughts and actions are guided by His wisdom. We exist because God alone is the giver and taker of life. The breath of every new day is a gift given by our Creator. And, good or bad, we praise Him for each one. Because apart from God, nothing and no one can exist.

Ephesians 2:10

God’s Promise – “You are My workmanship, created in Christ to do My good works.”

Do you ever compare yourself to others? Find yourself wishing you had another’s hair, figure, personality, or looks? Did you know doing so is a sin against God? Our Heavenly Father doesn’t use an assembly line where He rubber stamps His creations. Instead, each of us are a one of a kind piece of art, fearfully and wonderfully handcrafted by God Himself. (Ps. 139:14) From the number of hairs on our heads, to the things we are made to accomplish, the Lord painstakingly oversees every detail of who He creates us to be. And to not appreciate His craftsmanship by wishing we were someone else, insults our divine Creator. God also has a plan for our lives that is uniquely ours. A plan of good works for both His kingdom and glory. But we can only fulfill those works by abiding in Him. For it is through absolute surrender that we are able to accomplish our purpose and lead lives for God.

Psalm 90:2

God’s Promise – I am the everlasting God

How would you answer if someone asked, “Who is God?” Most of us would describe Him as our Heavenly Father, Savior, and Friend. And while all of that is wonderfully true, there is so much more to the Creator and Ruler of all things. The eternal “Alpha and Omega,” (Rev. 1:8) God is without beginning or end. He is the one and only Supreme Being, perfect in judgement, wisdom, and righteousness. And He alone is worthy of our worship, praise, and reverence. His promises are true, His goodness knows no bounds. And from that goodness springs forth an unmerited, unconditional, and unending love that God offers freely and joyfully to all who would accept His gift. A gift of eternal joy, peace, and fellowship. And a gift no enemy can ever steal or destroy. What awesome comfort it is to know that our Father is from everlasting to everlasting. And has called us to live an everlasting life with Him!

Romans 3:23

What is the glory of God? The Bible tells us that the world is full of it. God created this world and filled it with the splendor of his glory. Every created thing, being, or person points to the Creator and has intrinsic value given by the Creator. Creation showcases a supreme being who is beyond what creation can fathom. We catch glimpses but we can’t fully comprehend the perfection and Holiness of the One who made us and gives us purpose.

Adam, who witnessed Creation at its finest and who knew the most intimate relationship with His Creator failed to truly appreciate and surrender to his God given place and purpose. He sinned and through Adam, all human beings are born with a sinful nature. That sinful nature separates us from the Holiness of God. We are ALL sinners. We all have the same need. Sinners need a savior. God loved us enough to provide that Savior. Christ is the Savior who can reconcile us to God and His glory.

Hebrews 13:6

Too many times we put our confidence in the wrong things. And sadly, faith misplaced in possessions and people always leads to disappointment. In turn, disappointment leads to fear and anxiety. True peace can only be found through faith in God to meet all of our needs. And not just physical needs, but our need for security, safety, protection, and peace. I heard it said that fearless love never comes without facing fearful situations. And let’s face it, this world is filled with fearful situations. But God gives us His promise to never leave our side, no matter who or what we encounter. And when we put our faith in Him alone, we stand on the unshakable foundation of the Creator and Ruler of all things. So whatever the circumstance, or who tries to hurt us, we know we have nothing to fear. For with God as our helper, we too can confidently declare, “What will man do to me?”

January 3rd – 2 Timothy 1:7

2 Timothy 1:7

God’s gift of emotions can be a double edged sword. For with one side we experience love, joy, and gratitude. Yet with the other, pain, fear, and doubt. And make no mistake. Satan wields the bitter side of that blade ferociously and without mercy. But get this. He can only attack if we let him. You heard me. The Enemy can only strike when we allow him a foothold into our hearts and minds.

Paul makes it very clear in his letter to Timothy. God fills our spirits with His strength, power and love. The same power flowing through Jesus as He healed the sick, fed the hungry, and walked on water, resides in us! And that power of God waits with an extended hand for us to grab hold. Because overcoming fear is a two person operation. God gives us the power, but we have to use our sound minds to practice self control. Meaning we are to actively, and intentionally take ahold of our thoughts. And filter those thoughts through the sieve of God’s truth instead of Satan’s lies.

We are in a battle of a lifetime, and I truly believe we are living in the last days. So how am I going to spend the time remaining? One thing I know for sure, is that I’m done wasting it being afraid. I’m tired of running scared. I’m tired of letting Satan control my thoughts. And I’m tired of going down the rabbit hole of “what ifs.” I’m ready to go to war, with God as my Captain.

So the next time I find myself afraid, stuck, and unable to move, I’m  going yell out the word FEAR as a call to my Father, Emmanuel, Adonai, and Redeemer. Ruler and Creator of all things, “the LORD your God is the one who goes with you to fight for you against your enemies to give you victory” (Deuteronomy 20:4)

December 23rd – Isaiah 4-:1-7

Isaiah 40:1-7

This year comfort is in short supply. But it is greatly needed with many suffering sickness, death, division, anger, and disappointment. Yet we needn’t despair. For there is great comfort to be found in the birth of our Lord. God is more than just our Creator. He is our Father in  heaven, our great Comforter saying, “I, even I am He who comforts you.” (Is. 51:12) He is our never ending source of relief, solace, and security. And His love for us so great, He sent His only begotten Son not only to bring salvation, but encouragement, tenderness, love, and consolation. A suffering Servant who brought hope and to comfort His people. So as we rejoice in our Savior’s birth, may we follow the example of the Lord, and take time to comfort all of God’s people who are hurting, and in need of love.

Acts 17:28

The Athenians prided themselves on their arts and philosophy. So when Paul ministered to them about God, he used examples from their own Greek poets, Aratus and Cleanthes. Paul taught that as God’s children, those who abide in God, live, move, and exist in Him. We live because as Creator of all things, God is the source of all life. We move because as Ruler of our lives, our hearts, thoughts and actions are directed by Him. We exist because God alone is the giver and taker of life, and everyday He gives us is a gift. And when we live in the Lord and He in us, we have the joy and confidence of knowing God is always near.
