Fruits Of The Spirit

June 7th – John 14:15

John 14:15

Our love for Jesus is not just an emotional response but is demonstrated through our actions and choices. Obedience to His commands reflects a deep commitment and respect for His authority and wisdom. It shows that we trust Him and believe that His instructions are for our ultimate good. By following His commands we align our lives with His will, allowing His principles to guide our decisions and behaviors. This obedience is not burdensome but a joyful expression of our devotion and gratitude for His sacrificial love. It also serves as a testament to others, showing the transformative power of a life lived in Christ. When we obey Jesus we grow in our relationship with Him, experiencing a deeper connection and intimacy. Our obedience is a tangible way to honor Him, reflecting His love to the world. And this obedience demonstrates our commitment to living a life that mirrors Jesus’ character, making the Fruit of the Spirit a visible testimony of our faith.

July 28th – Proverbs 10:4

Proverbs 10:4

Lazy hands make for poverty, but diligent hands bring wealth.”

God is not a genie in a lamp. He doesn’t sit around waiting to grant our every wish. Yet as our Heavenly Father, He does love to bless His children abundantly. Only He wants us to work hand in hand with Him to bring about those blessings. And that’s why we are counseled to apply diligence to our lives. That means approaching all we do earnestly, with care and watchfulness. Because it’s those who apply themselves with diligence and dedication who are more likely to reap the rewards of success and abundance. Success going beyond material wealth, to a spiritual wealth including fruits of the Spirit like patience, discipline, and perseverance. Such qualities shape our character and foster a deep sense of fulfillment and contentment. As we strive diligently, we also grow in wisdom, understanding, and empathy, nurturing our spiritual well-being. This inner richness enriches our relationships, fosters a sense of purpose, and brings joy and peace into our lives.

April 18th – Acts 2:1-2

Acts 2:1-2

In the current climate, there is more than enough hate to go around. And it’s easy to get caught up in the anger and turmoil of the day. But as the church, as Jesus’ representatives on earth, shouldn’t we strive to do better? To be better? Shouldn’t we want to get back to the same rejoicing, generosity, togetherness, and worship demonstrated by the early church? Shouldn’t we have hearts which share God’s will to be beacons of light in a dark world? If that is indeed our will, the Holy Spirit is the way. For the more we walk in His power, the more the fruit of the Spirit becomes evident in our lives. So let’s get back to being the church the Lord established on that glorious Day of Pentecost. May each of us, out of love and joy, let the fruit of the Spirit flow abundantly through us to others. And may the Lord’s church be so powerful a witness that Jesus can add to the number daily, “those who were being saved.”

March 3rd – psalm 92:14

Psalm 92:14

In a world that searches endlessly for the fountain of youth, God assures us His blessings aren’t reserved for the young. As long as we continue to walk with the Lord and seek His will, no matter our age we can bear fruit and be effective workers in His kingdom.  Because even if we aren’t physically able to serve the Lord, we can be examples to others by bearing the fruit of, “love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.” (Gal. 5:22). Bodies grow old and frail, but no physical infirmity can stop the Spirit of God from working in and through us. And those who walk in righteousness, God promises will “flourish like the palm tree“, “grow like a cedar in Lebanon“, and the most wonderful of all, be “planted in the house of the Lord.” There we will “flourish in the courts of our God“, and be “full of sap and very green“.

February 1st – Colossians 3:12

Colossians 3:12

How much time you spend choosing your clothes for the day? Do you carefully pick out pieces that perfectly coordinate, or are you the throw on and go type? How we dress represents to the world who we are. And as citizens of heaven our attire should reflect those who have been, “chosen of God, holy and beloved.” That means throwing away the filthy rags of immorality, greed, and wickedness. Choosing instead to put on our God given spiritual outfit. An outfit built on a foundation of a Christlike love. And perfectly coordinated with the accessories of compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. We are called to be distinguishable from the rest of the world, with love being evident in everything we do. So much so that when people see us in our godly outfits, they’ll want to know who the designer is!

May 8th – Colossians 1:11

Colossians 1:11

Paul’s prayer for the Christians in Colossae is one that is equally important for the Christians of today. That God’s power will strengthen each and every one of us. And through that power we will receive the ability to endure; being unmovable during trials and suffering. Along with it, the fruit of the Spirit of patience. For patience is rooted in love, especially long suffering towards others. And both are attributes of the Father, bringing with them great joy. We live in a world that is anything but Christlike. Today people are easily offended and lose patience with each other quickly. By showing the world another way, the way of Christlike patience, not only is God happy, but so are we. Because obedience always fills our hearts with the joy the Lord!

October 15th – 1 Timothy 4:12

1 Timothy 4:12

The world today is obsessed with youth. And instead of growing older being seen as a gift, our society fights it tooth and nail. But when it comes to wisdom, the young are usually dismissed for lack of experience. And this was the case for Timothy. As a young church leader, Timothy needed the encouragement he received from Paul to be strong, and influential to all generations by his conduct. And the same goes for us. No matter our age, we are all valuable children in God’s family. Each of us has a specific purpose in the ministry. And like Timothy, we all are to be examples of Christ with our words, actions, love, and faith. So may we seek to display those godly, fruits of the Spirit for all to see. And may we never look down on fellow believers. Because young or old, we are all precious to God, and we are called to present ourselves as godly examples in a fallen world.

September 21st – Galatians 6:8

Galatians 6:8

Once we receive Jesus as our Savior, our eternity is secured. But the life we lead before going home to heaven has only two paths. A path that sows to the flesh, or a path that sows to the Spirit. One leads to moral decay and destruction. And the other leads to an orchard of spiritual fruit for God. Once we were dead in our sin nature, separated from our Heavenly Father. But through Jesus, we have been given the power to die to that old sin nature. Now as farmers working for the Lord, we have the freedom from sowing seeds of sinfulness, bitterness, and fleshly evil. Instead we can sow seeds of faith, goodness, and righteousness. So what kind of harvest do you want? An orchard of abundant fruitfulness for God, or a field of dust laid barren by fleshly desires? Every day we make the choice of how we will live and the fruits we will pursuit. May it be the rich, eternal fruit of the Spirit that will never rot.

July 21st – Galatians 5:25

Galatians 5:25

We are all born into this world physically alive, but spiritually dead. But the instant we receive Christ as our Savior, we are made anew. Through the Spirit of God, we become born again. We are now new creations given new lives in Jesus, and freed from the bondage of sin and death. But this freedom isn’t free. For it comes only though obedience to God and His will. Because the freedom God provides doesn’t mean we can do anything we want, or live our lives in a manner similar to the rest of the world. Instead, this freedom allows us to turn aside from jealousy, anger, drunkenness, quarrels, and idolatry. We are freed to love and bestow upon others the fruits of the Spirit, including joy, peace, patience, goodness, and gentleness. All of the wonderful and loving qualities exhibited by our Lord. So if we truly live in Christ, and He in us, we will follow and walk in the Spirit’s lead and exercise faithfully the freedom He gives us.
