Hebrews 2:9

John 3:16 tells us that God loves us so much, He sent His only Son to pay the sin debt we owe. A love perfectly exampled through the humility of that sent Son, Jesus Christ. Seated on a throne of righteousness at the right hand of the Father, the Lord willingly became “lower than the angels”. He gave up glory and power for pain and sorrow, all because of love. Love for us and love for the Father. Coming in the form of a man, Christ endured all things and suffered all things so He could become our perfect, compassionate, High Priest. (Heb. 2:16-17) Jesus shed His precious blood, giving His life so we can live eternally. And because of His great sacrifice, He once again sits beside God crowned with glory and honor. Such a love we can scarcely comprehend, and one we don’t deserve. Yet God offers His love freely. All we have to do is open our hearts and receive it.

John 5:6

No matter who we are, each of us at different times in our lives need the healing that only God can provide. The man at the pool of Bethesda was just one of many hoping for a miracle. And he received it through the compassion of Jesus. Christ offered this man grace and mercy, and He offers it to us as well. Our Lord wants no one to suffer in sickness and so He shed His precious blood to become our perfect path to healing. “He Himself took our infirmities and carried away our diseases.” (Matt. 8:17) Whether the healing we need is  physical, emotional, spiritual, or all three, Jesus not only provides deliverance from our troubles, but also peace, hope, and joy. So if you find yourself at the edge of the pool lying on your mat wondering when your healing will come, be proactive. Pray, trust, believe, and be ready to put in the work for change when Jesus asks, “Do you wish to be well?”

Luke 1:14

In ancient times, reputation was everything. And those without the blessing of children meant God’s favor had turned away from them. Zacharias had always wanted a child, but his wife Elizabeth was barren. Many assumed it was a punishment from God. But not so. For when Elizabeth was 60 years old, an angel of the Lord came to Zacharias and told him not only was his wife going to get pregnant, but it would be a boy! I’m sure there were plenty who scoffed at the thought. But when God makes a promise, we know He will always deliver! God blessed Zacharias with his son John whose great work would be to prepare the hearts of the people to receive the promised Messiah, Jesus Christ. The world can laugh and mock the promises of God. But we as Christians can rejoice. For we know each and every one will come true!

John 13:35

As one of His last acts before His sacrifice on the Cross, the Lord performed a task usually reserved for the lowest slaves in the house. He knelt and began to cleanse the feet of the disciples. Such an expression of self sacrifice, Jesus did as an example of humble love. Throughout His life on earth, everything Jesus did He did in love. And He made it perfectly clear that we are to do the same. But such a calling isn’t easy. For undoubtedly as soon as you make a commitment to love others, along a person will come as a test to your resolve. But the goal of the Christian walk is to become transformed into the image of Christ. And God never calls us to go it alone, nor to do what He asks in our own strength. Our strength comes from the power of the Holy Spirt. And through His power we can walk like Jesus and serve others joyfully and humbly. Our strength comes from the power of the Holy Spirt. John 3:36

I am thankful that all who receive Jesus as their Savior will never see the fires of hell.

As the writer of the book of Revelation, John described some pretty horrific things that will happen to those who face the wrath of God. The Greek term for wrath is orgē. It refers to the righteous anger of a judge who is issuing punishment for a crime. And what is the crime? Rejecting the gospel of Jesus Christ and refusing to receive Him as Lord and Savior. From the beginning, in His unmerited love, God sent His only Son to become the perfect sin sacrifice. Through His work on the Cross, Jesus paved the way for us to have eternal life. And because God wants us to come to Him freely, willingly, and lovingly, He gives us a choice. To receive His gift of an eternity spent by His side, or face the horrible alternative. Because those who refuse to receive Jesus as Lord, face an eternity in the “outer darkness” of hell where there will be “weeping and gnashing of teeth” (Matthew 25:30).

John 1:14

I’m thankful Jesus left His heavenly throne to become man

From the beginning it was God’s plan to establish a way for us to fellowship with Him forever.  And so He sent His Son, Jesus Christ, “The Word of Life” in the flesh. As God’s Son, Jesus is heir to everything. (Heb.1:2) Yet in a perfect display of humility and obedience, Jesus became a man, and for a little while becoming, “lower than the angels…because of the suffering of death crowned with glory and honor, so that by the grace of God He might taste death for everyone.” (Heb. 2:9) Christ willingly left His glorious throne in heaven and became human. He did this out His great love for both us and the Father. And to save us, He had to become one of us. The consequence of sin is death. But Christ in His beautiful love, became our substitute paying the sin debt we owe and giving His sinless life for our sin filled ones. And through His blood we now can have an intimate, unbreakable relationship with God.

John 14:6

I am thankful for the way, the truth, and the life 

Today’s world is lacking in absolute truths, being replaced instead with “ my truth.” Meaning whether it be true or not, we are encouraged to believe our own reality. But truth is defined as the state or character of being true. And the One who perfectly fits that description is Jesus Christ. He is the only begotten Son of God, the light, goodness, and love. The promised Messiah and Redeemer of the world, Jesus is the one and only way to God. False religions deceitfully say there are many paths to heaven. But the way, truth, and life, comes through Jesus alone. Nothing, absolutely nothing else can provide eternal life. Because only the Lamb of God lived a sinless life dedicated to obeying His will. And it is His precious blood that provides the path to an eternity spent with God. So whoever rejects the Son, seeking another path, will be rejected by the Father.

John 3:16

I am thankful that God held nothing back to save me

When we consider the perfect, awesome majesty of our Father, we can’t help but ask the same question David asks in Psalm 8:4. “What is man that You take thought of him, and the son of man that You care for him.” We are but a speck in this vastness of the cosmos. Frail, wicked, and rebellious enemies of the Lord. But God loves us so much, He stopped at nothing to provide a way for us to be reconciled to Him. Not even sparing His only begotten Son. God fully knew the betrayal, brutality, and rejection His precious Son would face. Yet out of His unmerited love for His children, God sent Him anyway. And because of His love for both us and the Father, Jesus willingly left His glorious throne in heaven to ransom His life for ours. God gave all to call us His. And Jesus shed His blood to save us. We were purchased at a very high and precious price! That’s how wanted, valued, and loved we are by God!

1 John 4:16

God’s Promise – “If you make your home in love, you live in Me and I live in you.”

John tells us that God doesn’t love, but rather God is love. It’s who He is at His core. And as Christians if it’s who we are at our core, God will abide in us and us in Him. That can only happen when we both know and rely on the deep, unending love God has for us. How do we know God’s love? Because He tells us so! In His Word, God repeatedly tells of the great devotion He has for each of us. And He proves it through the gift of His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ. How do rely on God’s love? By trusting Him with every area of our lives. And depending on His goodness to provide for our every need. It means going to Him first for guidance, aid, and provision, and knowing in His deep affection God will deliver. God’s love will never let us down. And out of overflowing thankfulness, we need to love others the way He loves us. For when we do, we show the world who we are living for, and who lives in us!

John 1:16

God’s Promise – “I have blessed you in Christ with one outpouring of grace after another.”

One of greatest ways in which God’s love is exampled, is in the grace He offers. Grace can be described as being given what we don’t deserve. (As opposed to mercy which is not receiving what we do deserve.) And because our Heavenly Father is, “the God of all grace,” (1 Peter 5:10)  the outpouring of grace Gods gives, is a constant, overflowing gift. He take us, who are forever and painfully undeserving, and bestows upon us His gift of love and Salvation. A gift He freely gives through no work of our own. Instead God counts the work of His only Son on the Cross as our payment in full. Once were like tarnished pieces of silver, eternally separated from God. But when we receive Jesus as our Savior, God polishes away the grime and pollution of sin until we become shining reflections of His light. And because of His unmerited grace, we now stand before God as finished, perfect, and wrapped in clothes of righteousness.
