Light

December 30th – John 1:9

John 1:9

After Christmas ends and the lights come down, many of us feel an unexpected letdown. The decorations are packed away, the music grows quiet, and the world feels less bright. What once felt magical now feels ordinary again. Some of us carry unanswered prayers into the new year. While others carry a loneliness we hoped the season would fix. John 1:9 reminds us there is a true Light. A Light who came into the world for everyone. This Light doesn’t fade with the season. Jesus remains when the celebrations are over. He meets us in the quiet and the disappointment. He  shines His light into weary hearts and uncertain days. When joy feels distant, His presence is still near.  Because He goes before us into the unknown. Walking with us when the path feels long. The light of Jesus offers us comfort, direction, and hope, guiding us forward when the sparkle is gone. And He leads us into the new year with a light that never goes out.

Reflection Question:
Where do I feel the post-Christmas letdown most, and how can I invite Jesus, the true Light, to meet me there?

Prayer Prompt:
Lord Jesus, You are the Light that never fades. Meet me in the quiet after the celebrations and shine into the places where I feel weary or disappointed. Help me carry Your light into the new year, trusting that You are with me every step of the way.

December 16th – 1 Peter 2:9

1 Peter 2:9

One of the things I’m most thankful for is how God, in His great mercy, choose us and called us out of darkness into His marvelous light. A truth beautifully echoed in one of my most favorite Christmas carols, “Do You Hear What I Hear?” In the fourth verse, the song proclaims that the baby Jesus will bring us goodness and light. A wonderful promise meant not only for the moment of His birth, but for all time. Jesus came to shine light into the darkness of the world and into the hearts of people everywhere. His goodness transforms lives and gives hope where there was none. And because we have received the amazing gift of His light, we are called to reflect that light to others. We are set apart to show kindness, grace, and love. This calling extends far beyond the Christmas season. For the light of Christ is meant to shine through us year-round. Shining through our words and actions, pointing others back to Him. Jesus brings goodness and light so that His people can carry it into the world. So won’t you join me in joyful obedience to our Lord, and spread a little love and goodness to all. And not just today, but everyday?

Reflection Question:
How can you intentionally reflect the goodness and light of Christ in your daily life, not just during the Christmas season but throughout the year?

Prayer Prompt:
Lord, thank You for calling us out of darkness and into Your marvelous light. Fill our hearts with Your goodness, and help us to shine Your light through our words, actions, and love so others may be drawn to You in every season.

December 12th – John 14:6

John 14:6

There have been seasons in my life when I felt completely lost. I was buried in darkness, confusion, and pain. And it was in those moments that John 14:6 became more than a verse to me. Jesus truly became the Way. He didn’t just point me toward the right path, He stepped into my darkness and took my hand Himself. More than once, He rescued me when I couldn’t rescue myself. Jesus saw me wandering, hurting, and unsure, and He lit up the very places where I had stumbled. His light didn’t shame me, it guided me. It showed me that even when I had drifted far, I was never too far for Him to reach. Every time I thought I had ruined the journey, Jesus gently led me back. He became my map, my compass, and my safe place. He became the Truth that cut through every lie I believed and the Life that breathed hope into the parts of me that felt dead. I follow Him today not because I am strong, but because He found me when I was broken and showed me the way home.

Reflection Question:
Where in your life do you feel lost or unsure, and how might Jesus—the Way, the Truth, and the Life—be inviting you to trust His light to guide you back?

Prayer Prompt:
Jesus, You have rescued me before, and I believe You can do it again. Shine Your light on the places where I feel confused, weary, or stuck. Lead me back to Your path, remind me of Your truth, and fill my heart with Your life-giving hope.

December 5th – John 1:14

John 1:14

C.S. Lewis once said, “The Son of God became a man to enable men to become sons of God.” What a beautiful reminder that Jesus didn’t stay distant or unseen. Out of His great love for each and every one of us, He stepped right into our world. Why? So we could finally know exactly what God’s heart looks like. In Christ, we see compassion that moves toward the broken. We see truth that sets the captive free, mercy that meets us in our failures, and grace that covers what we could never fix on our own. God is never silent nor hidden. He speaks to us through His Son. Every miracle, every word, and every tear Jesus shed, reveals a Father who wanted to be known. Jesus didn’t come to merely tell us about God, He came to show us God. To walk our roads, enter our pain, sit with our humanity, and shine light into our darkness. The God of glory wrapped Himself in flesh so we would never again wonder if we are loved, seen, or pursued. Through Jesus, the invisible became visible, and the distant God became our present Savior.

Reflection Question:
Where do I need to welcome Jesus, the Word made flesh, into my everyday life so His grace and truth can reshape my heart?

Prayer Prompt:
Lord Jesus, You stepped into our world so we could know the Father’s heart. Fill me with Your grace and truth today, and help me see You at work in every moment.

November 12th – Psalm 51:10

Psalm 51:10

The other day, I finally decided to clean out a junk drawer that had become cluttered with old receipts, tangled cords, broken pens, and things I didn’t even remember owning. It felt so good to toss out the junk and make space again. And as I stood there looking at the clean drawer, I couldn’t help but think about how our hearts can get the same way. Over time, little things pile up. Things like hurt feelings, resentment, guilt, or worry. And before we know it our hearts feel a junk drawer, cluttered and heavy. But God invites us to come to Him and let Him do some cleaning. He doesn’t shame us for the mess. He gently removes what doesn’t belong and fills the empty spaces with peace, joy, and renewal. A clean heart isn’t about perfection. It’s about letting God make room for what’s good and true. And just like that clean drawer, our hearts feel lighter, freer, and ready to hold what really matters. God specializes in heart makeovers . We just have to hand Him the mess and trust what He’ll create in its place.

Prayer Prompt:
Lord, I know there are things in my heart that need Your cleaning touch. Help me let go of what weighs me down and make space for Your peace and presence to fill me anew.

November 1st – Isaiah 43:21

Isaiah 43:21

When I was a little girl, I remember watching a flock of starlings rise into the sky at sunrise, their wings catching the morning light as they soared together in perfect harmony. They weren’t trying to impress anyone, and they didn’t have to be taught how to fly. They were simply doing what they were created to do. In the same way, you and I were created to worship. Isaiah 43:21 tells us, “The people whom I formed for Myself will declare My praise.” Worship isn’t just something we do, it’s who we are. It’s woven into our very being. It’s in our breath, our heartbeat, and our purpose. We don’t worship because life is perfect, we worship because God is worthy. And when we lift our hearts in praise, we step into our truest identity, beloved children honoring their Father.

Today let every sigh, every smile, every whispered prayer, and every quiet act of obedience be worship. Because we were made for this. Created to reflect His glory, to echo His goodness, and to live in joyful praise of the One who formed us in love. May our lives sing louder than our lips, and may we never forget who we belong to and why we’re here.

Reflection Question:
When you think about the starlings moving in harmony, what does it stir in your heart about your own worship? In what ways can you more intentionally “move with God”,  not striving, but responding naturally to His presence and leading?

October 18th – 1 Peter 5:8-9

1 Peter 5:8-9

You and I have a real enemy in Satan. The one who seeks to divide, discourage, and destroy what God is building in us. Every day he tries to whisper lies, stir up worry, and pull our focus from God’s peace. He prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. And not always does he roar loudly. Sometimes he comes quietly, through weariness, distraction, or despair. But we are not powerless. We stand firm, clothed in the strength of our Savior, anchored in truth that cannot be shaken. Each time we resist the enemy’s lies and cling to God’s promises, we remind him that he has already lost. Our victory isn’t in our own strength, but in the One who lives within us. God equips us with courage when we feel weak and fills us with peace when chaos surrounds us. The more we trust His power, the more the enemy’s roar loses its sting. So, keep standing firm. Be rooted, watchful, and confident in the God who fights for you. Because the Lion of Judah reigns, and no darkness can overcome His light.

October 15th – Proverbs 16:9

Proverbs 16:9

Have you ever experienced strangers striking up conversations with you when you least expect it? Maybe it’s at the grocery store, while grabbing coffee, or running errands on a busy day. Instead of seeing those times as impositions, we should see those moments as gentle reminders that God is always working. Even in the ordinary. As the air turns crisp and the leaves fall, we are reminded that every season holds divine opportunities. Little moments where God weaves His love into our daily lives.

And you never know. That unexpected chat may be God’s way of planting seeds of kindness. Or perhaps you are the reminder someone needs that they’re seen and loved. It’s so like our Father to use simple exchanges to scatter grace. Whether it be through a smile, listening ear, or a word of encouragement. Those are the harvest moments that matter most. So as we move through this beautiful season of gratitude, let’s keep our hearts open. You never know how God might use your warmth and your words to bring a little needed light into someone’s day.

October 9th – 1 Thessalonians 5:5-6

1 Thessalonians 5:5-6

I don’t know about you, but to me the world is feeling pretty heavy these days. Everywhere we look, darkness seems to creep a little closer through division, violence, and the noise that tries to drown out truth. But as children of God, we’re reminded that we are not people of the darkness. We belong to the light. And that truth changes everything. It changes how we see the world, how we respond, and how we carry ourselves when shadows fall. While fear grips others, we stand firm in hope. While confusion swirls, we hold on to truth. And while others grow weary, we keep watch with hearts anchored in faith. Being children of light means we don’t hide when the world grows dim. We shine that much brighter. We love deeper and pray harder. And we keep our eyes on Jesus, the Light that never flickers nor fades. Even in the darkest days, His light lives within us, steady, sure, and unshakable. So today, let’s live awake, alert, and aware of the hope we carry. Because the darker the world becomes, the more His light through us will shine.

May 23rd – John 8:12

John 8:12

When Jesus said, “I am the light of the world,” He wasn’t just offering illumination. He was offering hope, direction, and life itself. In a world that often feels dark, confusing, and lonely, His light is steady, never flickering. When we walk with Jesus, we don’t stumble aimlessly. We’re guided by truth and grace. He lights the path when our hearts are heavy, when the future feels uncertain, and when fear tries to take hold. His presence becomes the lamp to our feet. One that shows us the next step even when we can’t see the whole road. Darkness may threaten, but it can never overcome His light. In Jesus, we find the courage to keep going. In Him, we see our worth, our purpose, and our home. He doesn’t just shine around us, He shines within us. So when the world feels overwhelming, remember this. You carry the light of Christ. Let it glow in your kindness, your peace, and your boldness to believe when it’s hard. You were never meant to walk in shadows. With Jesus, you always walk in light.
