Light

August 31st – Colossians 3:5

Colossians 3:5

Put to death therefore what is earthly in you: sexual immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry.”

Many Christians mistakenly believe that living under grace gives them carte blanche to live a life of sin. But as believers, we are called to a higher standard. One that reflects the power of Christ’s presence in us. Indulging in impurity, evil desires, and other sinful behaviors, contradicts the very essence of our faith. As recipients of His unmerited favor, we are called to honor the gift of grace by forsaking sinful behaviors that once defined us. Our newfound identity in Christ prompts us to let go of the old self and its passions. Embracing a life of sin contradicts the transformation that grace brings and diminishes the significance of Christ’s sacrifice. Instead, we are encouraged to walk in the light of His love. Allowing grace to be the catalyst for a life marked by purity, gratitude, and a desire to please God. Grace empowers us to overcome sin, not indulge in it, as we seek to live out the abundant and purposeful life that Christ offers us.

February 21st – Romans 13:12

Romans 13:12

Think back over the last few days. How much of what you did was based on the thought of the coming of the Lord? If you’re like me, you’ll have to admit, “Not much.” Because often I get caught up with day to day life, forgetting the big picture. That picture being Jesus is coming, and I should be living each day in light of that great future event. For Paul warns the time is near, and Christ’s return is coming closer with every passing moment. So we need to be alert, awake, and armed with the weapon of the Light of God’s truth. Meaning each day intentionally walking in obedience, sharing the Gospel, and most importantly of all, living in love. Time is ticking. Soon the darkness while be forever overcome by the Light. But until then, we must make good use of the time left, pointing others to the saving grace of Jesus Christ.

February 2nd – Matthew 24:10

Matthew 24:10

The Bible gives us many signs to look for which signal we are living in the end of days. In Matthew 24 Jesus speaks of Christians turning from their faith. And hearts once belonging to Him growing hard, dark, and cold. We live in a world more divided than together. And hate is in ample supply. Over the years through movies, television, video games, and social  media, we as a society have been desensitized. Desensitized to the value of life, goodness, truth, and love. Yet as the world grows cold, we as followers of Christ need to keep our fires burning. To turn up the heat in our hearts, not letting our passion for Jesus die out. For this world is in desperate need of the love of Jesus Christ. And as His ambassadors we need to shine with the light of His love, and radiate the warmth of His grace.

May 15th – 1 John 1:7

1 John 1:7

There’s nothing better than standing in the light of the sun, and feeling its warmth upon our skin. But beyond that, the sun’s power also produces valuable Vitamin D that our bodies need to function. As Christians there’s nothing better than standing in the light of the Lord and feeling the warmth of His love and grace. And when we walk in obedience to God, we experience the joy of fellowship. A fellowship with Him and fellow believers that nourishes our soul. But if we choose to step outside of the light, that fellowship with our Father will be interrupted. Which is why we need the power of God. For He keeps us from the enticements of sin. And also from foolishly stepping back into the darkness from which we have been rescued.

April 30th – Ephesians 1:18

Ephesians 1:18

Throughout the Bible we’re told that God is Light. And from that Light stems goodness, love, and mercy. There are no greater gifts than salvation, and an eternity spent at the Lord’s side. Gifts that God sacrificed His own Son to provide. And gifts that He offers freely to all. That’s why Paul prays that the eyes of our hearts illuminate with the light of God’s hope. The hope of the riches of our inheritance through Jesus Christ. For it is through Christ in which we have become adopted heirs into the kingdom of God. Sons and daughters who no longer walk in darkness but in God’s glorious light. And it also this hope that should be a driving force in our lives. For until that glorious day when we are called home, we should be living a life that glorifies our Lord, reflecting His love in a hurting and dark world.

December 15th – John 12:46

John 12:46

Living in the country away from the street and city lights, when the sun sets, the darkness envelops everything. Without the light, it’s impossible to find the way. That’s how it is before we receive Jesus as our Savior. Separated from God, we live in the darkness of sin, doubt, fear, death, and pain. But when we invite Christ into our hearts, the veil of darkness is lifted forever. Not only do we become reconciled again to our Father in heaven and receive the light of His peace, love, grace, and mercy, we also become reflections of that Light to a darkened world.

October 30 – John 1:4

John 1:4

Jesus is life. He is the Fountain of life, the Sustainer of life, and the Source of life. And because of His great love for both us and the Father, He willingly left His place at the right hand of God to pay our sin debt with His precious blood. With His death and resurrection, Jesus forever conquered death and darkness. And when we receive Him into our hearts as our Savior, He gathers us into His life giving light. Never again will we be in darkness, for when Christ calls us His own, He shines brightly upon us for all eternity.
