Love

February 6th – Colossians 3:14

Colossians 3:14

Of all the fruits of the Spirit, God makes it perfectly clear that love is the greatest. Love binds us together in Christ. It fills our hearts with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, and endures all things. And love allows us to forgive one another just as Jesus forgives us daily. When we remember the perfect agape love Jesus showed us with His sacrifice on the Cross, how can we not show the same to others? For if we truly have a heart for Jesus, love should flow through us as plentiful as it flows from our Lord.

February 5th – 1 Peter 4:8

1 Peter 4:8

Sometimes loving others isn’t easy. Yet Paul tells us to love one another just the same. Because each of us are deeply flawed, and each of us sin daily. But God loves us with His incredible unconditional and forgiving love just the same. And He calls us to show this same love to one another. That doesn’t mean that we turn a blind eye to sin. What it does mean is that we forgive those who trespass against us, and encourage them to repentance when they trespass against God. When we remember how our Father, in His great love, forgives the unforgivable in us, how could we not show that same love to others!

In the dictionary love is defined as a profoundly tender, passionate affection for another person. What a  perfect way to describe one of the most beautiful truths in the Bible; that God is love. Everything He does flows from that glorious, unmerited, love; including sending His Son to become a sacrifice for all. As His children, we are to reflect God’s loving character for the world to see. Because is a great gift to love and to be loved. And we in turn need to bestow that gift to others as unconditionally as God bestows it to us.

February 3rd – John 3:16

John 3:16

In one of the greatest examples of love, God sent His only Son, Jesus Christ, to die so that we can live. Once we were dead in sin, separated from our Father in heaven. But because of His amazing love for His children, God gave of Himself to reconcile us back to Him. Jesus came to be beaten, tortured, rejected, and nailed to a Cross to pay our sin debt in full and bring us back into fellowship with God. Through His loving sacrifice, the Lord offers us a life eternal spent by His side. And all we have to do is to say yes, and receive His gift of love and pardon.

February 2nd – 1 Corinthians 16:14

1 Corinthians 16:14

In his letter to the Corinthians Paul instructed the people to be alert, stand firm, and be strong. But above all else, whatever they did, both great and small, was to be done in love. And Paul calls us to do the same. For if we are truly followers of Jesus, our goal should be to become reflections of His character. And one of the greatest characteristics of Jesus is His unmerited and unconditional love for all. We too can exhibit that same love when we allow the Holy Spirit to work on our hearts, softening them to allow Christ’s love to flow through to others.

Matthew 6

Fear and anxiety are powerful tools of the enemy. For God did not design us to be anxious or worried. In His Sermon on the Mount Jesus told the crowds, “Do not worry then, saying, ‘What will we eat?’ or ‘What will we drink?’ or ‘What will we wear for clothing?’….Do not worry about tomorrow.” (Matt. 6:31,34) …

Israel’s Jealousy – (Acts 22)

Acts 22

At the end of the previous chapter, the angry mob attempts to beat Paul to death. They falsely believed he had defiled the holy temple by sneaking in Gentiles. Gentiles were not allowed in the inner courts of the temple, and doing so was a crime punishable by death. Now in chapter 22 after convincing the commander of the soldiers that it was a case of mistaken identity, Paul is allowed to address the people and give his defense. He delivers his testimony in the “Hebrew dialect” causing the crowd to quiet down and listen. Speaking as a Jew to his fellow Jews, Paul tells of his life and actions before knowing Jesus as his Savior, the events surrounding his conversion, and how he was called into ministry. The Jews listened intently to all Paul had to say until he finished with this, “And He said to me, ‘Go! For I will send you far away to the Gentiles.“, (v. 21) Once again, the mob rioted. They cried out for Paul’s death, “…throwing off their cloaks and tossing dust into the wind.“, (v. 23). What was behind the Jews anger toward the Gentiles? Jealousy. …
