When it comes to having a godly character, kindness and truth are two very important qualities. For both are extensions of love. And God calls us to love others the same way He loves us. For we cannot be good representatives of Christ on earth if we don’t mirror His ways. Impossible on our own, but through the work and help of the Holy Spirit, we can tattoo God’s commandments on our hearts. Each of us is blessed with our own unique talents and gifts. But no matter how talented we are, when those gifts aren’t used with a foundation of love, they mean nothing. God blesses us so that we in turn can bless others. That means using our spiritual gifts with unselfish motives of furthering God’s kingdom. And when we fully understand the depths of love that God has for us, everything we do will come from hearts of thankfulness. For even though faith and hope are vital to the Christian walk, love is the greatest of all. And we can love, because He first loved us!

The main theme throughout the Bible is love. God’s love for us, and our love for God. But the Bible also makes it very clear that the love God shows us is to be demonstrated toward others. For everyday our Father in heaven loves us, who are unlovable, with His perfect unconditional love. And we in turn need to shower others with that same love. Now on our own, such a commandment is impossible. But through God, and a heart filled with the Spirit, all things are possible, including loving others.

Loving God means seeking a close intimate relationship with Him. That includes coming to Him for all of our needs. And whatever that need may be, when we persistently come before the Lord, He promises to answer. For He loves us with an endless, unconditional love. And out of that great love, when we reach out to Him, God will always be there. Because as our Father in heaven, He loves nothing more than to respond to the cries of His children.  So seek Him. Seek His face, and His presence. And trust that God will never forsake those whom He loves.

Loving others isn’t an easy thing to do. And although no one can love as unconditionally and perfectly like Jesus, we do need to love each other with that same Christlike love. That means practicing patience and kindness even when we are frustrated with those around us. Love isn’t envious of another’s blessings or based in arrogance and pride. It doesn’t intentionally provoke others nor keep a record of wrongs committed against us. A love like is isn’t possible on our own, but through God, all things are possible, including loving the unlovable.

Psalm 86:15

On a day in which love is the focus, there is no greater love to be celebrated than the one God has for us all. Even though we don’t deserve it, each day our Lord showers us with His unconditional love and blessings. Not because we are especially lovable, but because God is love! And it is in that great love where He demonstrates daily His amazing mercy, grace, lovingkindness, and truth. If not for His example, we would never know what a true, perfect love looks like!
