Nourishment

August 4th – Romans 10:17

Week 1 – Understanding Faith (Romans 10:17)

Just like all living things, our faith needs nurturing. And we do this by studying the teachings of the Bible. Think of it like planting a garden. Just like seeds need water and sunlight to grow, our hearts need the nourishment of God’s Word to develop faith. When we listen to sermons, read scripture, or even discuss spiritual matters with friends, we are watering those seeds. And far from a one time event, it’s an ongoing process. Every time we engage with the Word of God, we allow its truths to sink deeper into our hearts, influencing our thoughts and actions. It’s like training a muscle. The more we exercise our faith through hearing and applying God’s Word, the stronger it becomes. In a world full of noise and distractions, making time to listen to God’s voice can seem challenging, but it’s essential for spiritual growth. By consistently turning to scripture and seeking God’s guidance, we build a faith that can withstand life’s trials and uncertainties, providing us with peace and direction.

Questions for Reflection

  1. How can we make regular engagement with the Word of God a priority in our daily routines to ensure our faith continues to grow and strengthen?
  1. What practical steps can we take to actively listen to and internalize God’s Word in a world filled with distractions and conflicting messages?

Spend time in the Bible each day. For faith blossoms in the heart when we water it with the Word of God. 🙏🏻❤️

James 1:25

Spending time daily in Scripture is vital for our Christian walk. Not just a blueprint for life, the Bible reveals God’s character, wisdom, and will for our lives. It provides spiritual nourishment, guiding us through life’s complexities with divine insight. But the true power of God’s Word isn’t just in reading it but in applying its truths to our lives. This obedience liberates us from the bondage of sin, providing a freedom rooted in divine truth and leading to a life of integrity and purpose. By consistently living out the principles found in Scripture, we experience the blessings of spiritual freedom. Blessings like peace, joy, and a clear sense of direction. April 26th – Psalm 1:3

Psalm 1:3

As we behold the beauty of spring in all its splendor, let us also reflect on the beauty and splendor of rooting ourselves in God’s Word. For like the trees which draw nourishment from the flowing streams, so too are our souls nourished by the living water of scripture. We all want to be blessed by God. God wants that too. But that won’t happen if we’re rooted in the wickedness of the world, being fed by the sins of the flesh, and producing worthless, worldly, fruit. The way we live our lives, not the words we speak, are the true testimonies of our hearts. And every eye is watching; especially God’s. So to receive His very best, we need to be people after God’s own heart. This means uprooting ourselves from the sinful soil of this earth, being replanted on the riverbank of God’s living water. There we can be nourished day and night with His goodness and love. Our leaves will forever be lush and beautiful. And never will our tree be barren, but always produce sweet, bountiful fruit pleasing to the Lord.

September 11th – Psalm 27:4

Psalm 27:4

“One thing I ask from the Lord, this only do I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze on the beauty of the Lord and to seek him in his temple,

In today’s fast-paced world, it’s easy to get caught up in the distractions and demands of daily life. Yet there is great importance in setting aside time for reflection, prayer, and worship. Importance in nourishing our souls and finding meaning in our daily existence. That’s why it’s vital to be constantly seeking the Lord. To deeply desire dwelling in the house of the Lord. The house of the Lord represents not just a physical place of worship, but a spiritual space. It’s where believers can draw near to the Lord, seek guidance, find solace, and experience God’s presence in our lives. The Lord’s house is a beautiful sanctuary. One where we can offer prayers, engage in worship, and grow in our faith. By dedicating ourselves to seeking the presence of God, we can a sense of purpose amid the chaos of this world. And dwelling in God’s house gives us a sense of belonging, fosters a deeper relationship with the Lord, and gives us a constant source of strength and comfort.

August 16th – Romans 11:22

Romans 11:22

I love sitting on my front porch and enjoying the view of the large oak tree in my front yard. The beauty of its leaves in autumn is surpassed only by the size of its massive trunk. It bestows the kindness and nourishment of its leathery nuts to all who hunger. And protection from the storm to those seeking harbor in its sturdy branches. God is the mightiest of oaks. Providing spiritual sustenance and divine protection to those who feed on His Word, and shelter in His branches. A privilege reserved for those He calls His own. And because of His unequaled kindness, through the gift of salvation, we are grafted into His roots. And as long as we “continue in His kindness,” staying firmly perched in His tree, never rejecting Him or His Word, not ever will we hunger, nor any storm overtake us.

February 23rd – 1 Peter 2:2-3

1 Peter 2:2-3

Like a newborn needs the life giving nourishment of a mother’s milk, Christians need the nourishment of the spiritual milk of God’s Word. Because God’s Word is living and life giving. And it is tailored to provide us with the spiritual comfort and nutrition that we need to grow and thrive. Just as breast milk changes to meet the needs of an infant, God tailors what we receive from the Bible to meet our spiritual needs. I can read through a passage of scripture that I’ve read countless times before and God may show me something completely new. Something that meets my current needs and broadens my understanding. Showing how He is working in my heart and life at that particular time. And it is the the sweetness of those experiences that makes me thirst for more.

Do you remember the popular ads for milk? The ones where various celebrities pose with milk mustaches proudly displayed and the caption “Got Milk?” This ad campaign started to emphasize the necessity of always having milk on hand. And the unfortunate struggles of running out. The evidence of their thirst quenching experience is proudly displayed above a beaming smile. I think that our time being nurtured by the milk of God’s Word should leave similar evidence for the world to see. They should see that something has been tasted and left our spirits satisfied with God’s goodness!

Blessings,

Becky
