Once we accept Jesus as our Savior, we receive the free gift of salvation. And although that salvation can never be lost, the joy of being saved is diminished when we live in unrepentant sin. David loved the Lord, but his sin with Bathsheba affected the relationship between them. And sin affects ours as well. And to bring us back into fellowship with God we need to, like David, confess and repent from our sin. When we do, God is faithful to welcome us back into His loving arms, and fill our hearts with the joy of having a close personal relationship with Him once again!

Each of us sin and fail the Lord daily. But we serve a loving and merciful God, who offers us His never ending forgiveness and reconciliation. For when we come to Him in confession and repentance, God washes away the filth in our hearts. Cleansing us with His loving grace, God removes our sins as far as the east is from the west. Throughout his life David faced trials and tribulations. Yet time after time, God delivered him from his hardships. And out of a heart filled with thankfulness, David couldn’t help but praise God for all He had done. For David knew that a life without God isn’t a life worth living. God is our Protector, Comforter, Defender, Father, and Friend. And separate from Him and His lovingkindness, it would impossible to go through life and it’s difficulties with a heart of joy and peace. So David did as we should, and gave thanks and the glory to God for His continued love and deliverance.

Even though we don’t deserve it, each day our Lord showers us with His unconditional love and blessings. Not because we are especially lovable, but because God is love! And it is in that great love where He demonstrates daily His amazing mercy, grace, lovingkindness, and truth. If not for His example, we would never know what a true, perfect love looks like! At the end of the previous chapter, the angry mob attempts to beat Paul to death. They falsely believed he had defiled the holy temple by sneaking in Gentiles. Gentiles were not allowed in the inner courts of the temple, and doing so was a crime punishable by death. Now in chapter 22 after convincing the commander of the soldiers that it was a case of mistaken identity, Paul is allowed to address the people and give his defense. He delivers his testimony in the “Hebrew dialect” causing the crowd to quiet down and listen. Speaking as a Jew to his fellow Jews, Paul tells of his life and actions before knowing Jesus as his Savior, the events surrounding his conversion, and how he was called into ministry. The Jews listened intently to all Paul had to say until he finished with this, “And He said to me, ‘Go! For I will send you far away to the Gentiles.“, (v. 21) Once again, the mob rioted. Being called children of God comes with some pretty amazing perks. Not only does it offer the promise of an eternal life spent in His presence, God also promises wonderful things for those who receive Jesus as their Savior. In His goodness, God takes great joy in pouring out his storehouse of love and blessings on those He calls His own. And out of His unmerited grace, the Lord offers each of us protection from this world under His mighty wing. To God alone goes the praise and thankfulness for His love and mercy.
