Reaping

September 16th – Psalm 126:6

Psalm 126:6

Never does God promise that we’ll be spared from trials. And during times of great sorrow, Psalm 126 brings healing to our souls. Because it contains a wonderful promise of hope from God. Tough times won’t last, and our tears of sorrow will one day turn to shouts of joy. The psalmist compares our lives to that of a farmer planting his seed. He toils in planting the crop, tending the young sprouts as they grow. He works day and night, from season to season. And he frets over the unknown fruitfulness of the harvest. But in all things, the farmer takes comfort knowing he did all he could to produce a bountiful harvest. We too can find comfort knowing that God only expects us to do the best we can. To keep sowing the seed of the Lord regardless of the outcome; even if those seeds are sown in tears. For one day we will return with rejoicing as the Lord blesses His seed and causes it to produce soul saving fruit.

September 15th – John 4:35

John 4:35

How many us love to live by the phrase, “Why do today what you can put off until tomorrow?” But God says, “Why put off tomorrow what you can today?” For unlike the farmers of the field who need to wait for the right time to harvest, God’s fields are always ripe for gleaning. His seeds are always being planted, His rows sowed, and His harvest ready. All that is missing are the workers who are eager, and ready to reap. Jesus taught the disciples, when it comes to spreading the gospel, the time is now! Every season is the right season for spirits willing to sow, hearts willing to cultivate, and hands willing to reap. Procrastination has no part in evangelism. And Ecclesiastes 11:4 reminds us, those who wait for the right time, get nothing done for God at all. For time is short, and the workers few. So don’t wait! For what is today, but yesterday’s tomorrow.

September 14th – Galatians 6:9

Galatians 6:9

Living in the country, our house is surrounded by fields. And the dedication I see daily by the farmers to their crops, always inspires me. From morning to night, they break the soil, sow the seeds, and keep the weeds at bay. And no weather, hardship, or sickness, keeps them from their fields. Patiently they toil, knowing the bountiful harvest awaiting their hard work. And God calls us to do the same. We too are to keep toiling. To keep working for the kingdom of God, doing good, all for His glory. Never growing weary no matter the circumstance, finding our strength in the Lord. For in time, like the farmers, we too will reap a bountiful harvest of blessings. For our labor never goes unnoticed by God, who always rewards obedience. And He promises to, “the one who sows to the Spirit, will from the Spirit reap eternal life.” (Gal. 6:8)

September 13th – revelation 14:15

Revelation 14:15

When the harvest of the earth is ripe, none will escape the mighty sickle of God. For as lovingly as He gleans the righteous, He will just as fiercely strike down the wicked. His judgement will be swift, final, and when carried out, leave none standing. We serve the God of second chances. Yet His patience has an end. For over four millennium, God has stayed His judgement. For He wishes none to perish. (2 Peter 3:9) But one day soon, the trumpets will blare and time will have run out. Even as we speak there is an angel in God’s heavenly temple. He is eagerly waiting for the time when he will cry out with a loud voice to “one like a son of man.” And at his urging, with one fell swoop, the Lord will reap the earth. So now while there is still time, receive Jesus as your Savior. Become part of God’s precious wheat laid up in His glorious storehouse, rather than a discarded tare thrown in the fire to burn away.

September 10th – Hosea 10:12

Hosea 10:12

Much of the hardship Israel endured, was a result of her disobedience to God. The people did as they pleased and forsook the ways of the Lord. And the United States is quickly following suit. Our country has also turned away from God. Its heart has grown hard and has been overtaken by the weeds of sin. And like Israel, we need to heed the warning of Hosea who tells us now is time to come back to God. The time to break up the fallow, unusable ground in the gardens of our hearts. To till under the tares of disobedience, bringing forth the rich, fertile soil of faith underneath. We are to sow seeds of righteousness, reaping mercy and love. For time is running out. The Day of the Lord will soon be upon us. And now is time to seek Him until He comes to rain His righteousness upon us.

September 7th – Galatians 6:7

Galatians 6:7

Some mistakenly believe that because Christian’s live under grace, they are freed from the consequences of their sins. And others believe that there is no God at all and laugh at the idea of Jesus returning. Both are terribly wrong. The Bible says that Christian or not, everyone reaps what we sow. And it is our actions that determine the harvest that sowing brings, either for good or bad. Furthermore, the results of our decisions can be far reaching and lasting, often not only effecting us but those around us. Sometimes for generations to come. So do not be deceived by the lies of the Enemy. Whether you believe it or not, one day all will stand before God. And those who mock Him in both word and deed will answer for their actions. So sow in faithful obedience to the Lord, with the joyful expectation of reaping the bountiful harvest of blessings God will produce in your life!

September 3rd – 2 Corinthians 9:10

2 Corinthians 9:10

Novelist Henry Fielding once said, “Riches without charity are worth nothing. They are a blessing only to him who makes them a blessing to others.” A sentiment perfectly exampled by farmers of the field, who through sowing the seeds, and working the land, produce a bountiful harvest. A harvest they use not only to feed themselves and their families, but countless of others as well. And as followers of Jesus, we are to be laborers in God’s fields, sharing our bounty with the world. For Jesus is the original great Sower, and God the supplier of the good seed. And the seeds He gives us are to be used as blessings for the world. To bring forth a fruitful harvest of righteousness for God’s kingdom and glory. So go out and bountifully spread the seeds of God everywhere. Feed the world with Lord’s goodness and share with them how through Jesus Christ, their souls will never hunger again!

September 1st – Matthew 9:37

Matthew 9:37

If there’s anyone who knows about labor shortages, it’s Jesus. When looking over the huge crowd of people all coming to Him for healing and teaching, He was filled with compassion. Like sheep, they were lost and alone without a shepherd to guide and protect them. The people were eager and desperate for the message of hope Jesus provided, ripe and ready for harvesting. Yet the workers were few. So Jesus, our great Shepherd, issued a calling. Go and reap the field of lost souls and bring them home to His flock. How? Through prayer and action. First we need to plead that God will send out the workers needed to get the job done. Second, we need to be willing and ready to be those workers. To go out into the field and glean it of every soul for the Lord. For the harvest is great and the time to reap is upon us!
