Salvation

September 5th – Psalm24:7

Psalm 24:7

Lift up your heads, you gates; be lifted up, you ancient doors, that the King of glory may come in.”

When Jesus entered Jerusalem riding on a donkey, it was the first Palm Sunday. The priests were praising God at the temple and reciting, “Lift up your heads, O gates, and be lifted up, O ancient doors, that the King of glory may come in!” Jesus is the King of Glory because through His life, death, and resurrection, He forever conquered sin, death, and darkness. As the Son of God, He left His heavenly throne to walk among humanity. Through His sacrificial death on the cross, Jesus conquered sin’s power, offering forgiveness and redemption to all who believe. His resurrection from the grave affirmed His victory over death, assuring us of eternal life. In ascending to heaven, Jesus returned to His rightful place of honor and majesty, seated at the right hand of God as the King of Glory. This title signifies His divine authority and dominion over all creation, reminding us that in Him, we find not only salvation but also the source of eternal hope and the embodiment of God’s glorious grace.

August 30th – Colossians 3:8

Colossians 3:8

But now you must put them all away: anger, wrath, malice, slander, and obscene talk from your mouth.”

Growing up my Grandma was very firm in what words we were allowed to use. And a curse word was strictly forbidden. For as she would always say, “Swearing is a sign of a very poor vocabulary!” Paul shares this sentiment, warning us against foul talk. And there’s nothing more disheartening than hearing the precious name of Jesus, a symbol of hope, love, and salvation for millions, used as a curse word. Even by those who claim to love and follow Him. Doing so not only diminishes the reverence that His name deserves, but also reflects a lack of understanding of its significance. The name of Jesus holds immeasurable power, representing the embodiment of God’s grace and sacrifice. Instead of being a source of negativity, it should inspire us to reflect on His teachings and exemplify His love. As believers, we should cherish the name of our Savior. And use it to bring light, healing, and transformation to our lives and the lives of those around us.

Colossians 2:17

These are a shadow of the things to come, but the substance belongs to Christ.

I know many people who only read the New Testament, and the life of Jesus. But when we neglect the history found in the Old Testament, we miss how Jesus serves as the bridge that unites the two. For the old points to our great need for a Savior. And the new tells us exactly who that Savior is, Jesus Christ. And how He is the fulfillment of God’s covenant with humanity, connecting the shadowy symbols and rituals of the Old Testament to their ultimate meaning. Through His life, death, and resurrection, Jesus brought to fruition God’s plan of salvation. He is the perfect fulfillment of God’s Law. And now because of His sacrifice, we live under grace, freed from the penalties of that very Law. The Lord connects the timeless truths behind the laws and stories of with the grace, love, and redemption that define the New Testament. Our faith is rooted in Him. And in the new covenant He established, which surpasses the temporary symbols and shadows of the past.

Colossians 4:5

Walk in wisdom toward outsiders, making the best use of the time.

Many agree that we are indeed living in the last days. And at anytime we could hear the call of Jesus. Time is running out. And as believers, we are called to be vigilant and wise stewards of the time we have left. Each second God gives us on this earth is to be used to advance His kingdom and for His glory. To live out our God given purpose. And to spread far and wide the saving message of Jesus Christ. Every moment is a gift, and we are entrusted with the responsibility to use it wisely. That means demonstrating love, compassion, and grace to all we meet. Being salt and light to a desperate world, striving for personal spiritual growth, and a closer relationship with the Lord. The impending return of Jesus calls us to prioritize eternal values over worldly pursuits. And to live with a sense of urgency and purpose. So let us grab hold of the remaining time to live faithfully, serve wholeheartedly, and shine brightly as we await the glorious return of our Savior.

August 14th – Colossians 2:14

Colossians 2:14

Having canceled the charge of our legal indebtedness, which stood against us and condemned us; he has taken it away, nailing it to the cross.

We are all born sinners who need to be reconciled to our perfect and holy Creator. That’s why we must depend on Jesus. Because He is the only one who can cleanse us and prepare us to dwell in His house forever. On our own, there is nothing we can do to be good enough to stand before a righteous God. Our sin is too great, and our sentence is death. But because of His great love, our Father paid our sin debt Himself. God sent His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ, through whose death on the cross, became the perfect sacrifice and atonement. And it is only because of His shed blood can we receive forgiveness. A sweet forgiveness that restores our fellowship with God, and provides a path to eternal life. Once condemned, in bondage to sin, and separated from God, our Father took the perfect righteousness of His Son and put it on us. Why? To reconcile us back to Himself, and so we could experience the joy and freedom that comes with knowing our sins have been forgotten and the slate wiped clean!

Colossians 2:11

In him also you were circumcised with a circumcision made without hands, by putting off the body of the flesh, by the circumcision of Christ.”

Unlike today where circumcision is done mostly for cosmetic reasons, to the Jews it held profound significance. As a physical sign of the covenant between God and the descendants of Abraham, it symbolized separation from the world and dedication to God’s laws. Circumcision served as a powerful reminder to the Jews of their identity as God’s chosen people. But as Christians, we are all His people, for we are circumcised by the transformative work of Jesus Christ. Through His death and resurrection, the Lord circumcises our hearts by cutting away the sinful nature that separates us from God. A spiritual circumcision not carried out by human hands, but by the Spirit of God Himself. For when we receive Jesus as our Savior and Lord, a profound inner transformation begins. Slowly the Spirit weeds out the garbage of our old self, so our new life in Christ can begin. A life marked not by outward appearance, but by the inward renewal of a heart, mind, and spirit, dedicated to knowing, loving, and pleasing God.

August 7th – Colossians 1:15

Colossians 1:15

He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation.”

When spending time in God’s Word, I can’t help but feel a pang of jealousy while reading about those who saw, talked, and walked with the Lord in the flesh. To witness His miracles, hear His teachings, and experience His boundless love in person was a wondrous gift. For in Jesus, God’s grace and truth became tangible. And through Him, humanity experienced the physical embodiment of God’s love and mercy. Because our Heavenly Father desires a close, personal relationship with us, He sent His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ, to reconcile us back to Himself, and provide a path to eternal life. Creator of all things, God in the flesh, both fully God and man, Christ came to ransom His life for the lives of all who call on Him for salvation. And one day those who receive His gift of salvation, will also share in the awesome privilege of seeing the Lord face to face. But until He calls us home, through the scripture, we can learn how Jesus walked while on the earth. And by following His example, we can draw closer to God by living as He did.

Colossians 1:13

“He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son.”

Many try to twist the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Or try to make it more complicated than it is. But the core message is this. Once we were dead in our sins, eternally separated from God. But because He loves us so much, God sent His only Son, Jesus Christ, to rescue us. And through His death and resurrection, Jesus conquered the power of sin and death forever. Now all who call Him Lord, Christ delivers from the dominion of darkness and transfers into the kingdom of His marvelous light. Because of God’s boundless mercy, He lifts us from the depths of despair, transforming our lives into beacons of hope and righteousness. By embracing His deliverance, we can walk in the glorious freedom of His truth. And we can experience the joyous journey of living as children of light, guided by God’s eternal love and presence. Jesus is returning soon to set up His kingdom on earth. And only those who receive His free gift of Salvation will be citizens of the most glorious domain ever known.

July 24th – Proverbs 24:11

Proverbs 24:11

Rescue those who are being taken away to death; hold back those who are stumbling to the slaughter.

The Bible is very clear in warning us that our noses are better off kept in our own business. Yet there are times when we are called as Christians to speak up and speak out. Times when we see an atrocity, injustice, or abuse. It is then, we are told, to take action, especially in protecting the innocent. Which is why God also commissions us to go out and share the Gospel. For just as important as pulling someone from the path of a speeding car, so is sharing the Good News of Jesus Christ. Because it is a life saver to those walking the path of certain death and destruction. A transforming message, it brings hope to the hopeless, and delivers those trapped in darkness and despair. And although we aren’t responsible for another’s salvation, we are responsible to plant the seed of God’s saving grace. For we are His ambassadors on this earth. And as such should be dedicated to rescuing souls and leading them toward the light of salvation.
