John 10:11

Jesus calls Himself the Good Shepherd, and what a tender truth that is. Left on their own, sheep are easily frightened, quick to wander, and completely defenseless. And just like them, left on our own, we often lose our way and struggle to find steady footing. But Jesus, our Good Shepherd, doesn’t love us from afar or leave us to manage life alone. Instead, He leads us with gentleness, guiding us step by step when we can’t see ahead. He protects us with His strength, standing between us and the danger we don’t see. And lovingly, He corrects us. Not to shame us but to bring us back to where we belong. Our Good Shepherd knows our voice, our fears, our needs, and even our unspoken prayers. And He invites us to know His voice too. A voice of truth, peace, and steady direction. When we follow Him, we are never forgotten, never unprotected, and never alone. And with Jesus as our Good Shepherd, we find the belonging our hearts quietly ache for.

Reflection Question:
Where in your life do you need to trust the Good Shepherd’s guidance instead of trying to lead yourself?

Prayer Prompt:
Jesus, my Good Shepherd, show me where I’ve wandered, steady my steps, and help me rest in Your loving care today.

Psalm 23:1

The Lord is our Shepherd. That means we don’t have to scramble, strive, or stress to keep life together. And where He leads, there’s no lack. Not because we always feel full, but because He is. Jesus doesn’t just toss breadcrumbs. He prepares a feast in barren places. That’s why it’s important to pray that God, would Shepherd our hearts. May He guide it when it wanders. Protect and guard it when it’s wounded. And calmly ground it when it races ahead. The Lord knows the path better than we do, and He never leads us into something without walking with us through it. So even when we don’t understand the journey, we can trust the Shepherd. He knows where the still waters are. He restores what this world drains out. His presence doesn’t promise a pain-free life, but it does promise we’ll never walk alone. We may not know what’s next, but we know Who’s leading. And that is more than enough.

John 10:27

John 10:27 says, “My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me.” I love this verse because it reminds me that God is always speaking, I just need to listen. But let’s be honest, life is loud. There are so many voices pulling at us, fear, doubt, the opinions of others, and our own overthinking. It’s easy to get caught up in the noise and miss what God is saying. But Jesus promises that if we are His, we will recognize His voice. So how do we hear Him?

For me it’s through His Word. I hear God when a verse jumps off the page and speaks straight to my heart. I hear God in those quiet moments of prayer when I feel His peace settle over me. Sometimes, I hear God through the Holy Spirit nudging me in a certain direction, or even through a friend’s wise words at just the right time. The more I seek God, the more I recognize when He’s guiding me. But listening isn’t enough. I have to be willing to follow, even when it’s hard. Maybe you’re wondering if you’ve been hearing God and just didn’t realize it. Have you felt that quiet pull toward something deeper? A gentle warning when you were about to take a wrong step? An unexpected peace in the middle of uncertainty? That’s God! He knows you. He’s speaking. The question is, are you listening?

Week 3 – Wisdom In Witnessing (Matthew 10:16)

Just like He sent out His twelve apostles, Jesus calls us His followers, to go out and share His message. And also like the apostles, we are sheep among wolves. Sent to proclaim the life-saving Gospel in a world that often rejects both Christ and His message. The world may be hostile, but our mission is to carry His truth with wisdom and gentleness. We aren’t to meet hostility with hostility but with the love of Christ, being “wise as serpents and innocent as doves.” Wisdom helps us discern how to speak truth in challenging situations. Gentleness ensures that our message is delivered in love, reflecting the heart of Jesus. As the world hated and rejected Him, we too may face opposition. But we mustn’t be discouraged. Because it’s through our steadfast love, kindness, and wisdom that hearts may be softened to receive the Good News. Each of us is called to be a light in the darkness. To carefully navigate a world in need of hope and truth, while embodying Christ’s grace and love every step of the way.

Questions For Reflection –

  1. How can we balance being “wise as serpents” and “innocent as doves” when sharing our faith with those who may reject or criticize it
  1. In what ways can we practice discernment and wisdom in our daily interactions to remain faithful to Christ while still being gentle and compassionate?

Be as wise as a serpent, but as gentle as a dove. God’s love shines brightest when we speak His truth with wisdom and kindness. 🙏🏻❤️

John 10:11

The term “sheep” is the current insult of the day. It’s used to describe people who blindly follow the crowd without doing any critical thinking of their own. But for me, I see being called a sheep as a badge of honor. For I follow the Good Shepherd. And He will never lead me astray. It is said the reason people are followers, is because our hearts are created to long for connection. Connection with each other, but most importantly, connection with God. And as our Good Shepherd, the Lord cares about every member of His flock, and wants a close, intimate relationship with each of us. So much so, that He laid down His life to save ours. And so with a heart overflowing with thankfulness, I will gladly follow my Shepherd, Savior, and Friend. For from His great love, He will never abandon nor forsake me, His lowly sheep. And His path leads to an eternity of love, peace, and righteousness.
