Trouble

September 12th – Matthew 7:24-25

Matthew 7:24-25

Life has a way of bringing storms. Whether it be through unexpected loss, painful trials, or moments that shake everything we thought was steady. When the winds howl and the rain pours, it’s easy to panic or feel like everything is crumbling beneath us. Yet Jesus reminds us that when our lives are built on Him, the solid rock, we are never standing alone. Foundations matter. If we build on shifting things like success, people’s approval, or our own strength, the storm will eventually reveal how fragile those foundations are. But when we anchor ourselves in God’s Word, prayer, and trusting His promises, we discover a stability the world can’t offer. Standing firm doesn’t mean a life free of troubles. But it does mean we know who holds us steady through it all. And when the storm finally passes, we can look back and see that God not only carried us safely through, but also strengthened and refined us in the process. Sometimes the fiercest storms bring the clearest reminders that Jesus is our unshakable foundation. With Him, we can stand firm, no matter what comes our way.

Reflection Question: What foundation am I building my life on—and will it hold when storms come?

Prayer Prompt: “Lord, help me to build my life on You, my solid rock. When storms rise, remind me that You are my strength, my refuge, and the one who holds me steady.”

May 4th – Psalm 56:3

Psalm 56:3

Fear doesn’t always knock politely. It barges in, flips on all the lights, and throws a party in your chest. But just because fear shows up doesn’t mean it gets to stay. Faith is what decides who has the last word. Some days, trusting God feels like trying to drink coffee without spilling it during an earthquake. Messy but possible. Other days, it’s like resting in a hammock under a sky full of peace. Faith isn’t about never feeling afraid. It’s about leaning into the One who holds it all, even when your world feels shaky. The “what ifs” scream for attention, but God gently reminds us, “I’m here, and I’ve got this.” We don’t have to fake being fearless, we just need to be faithful. So even when our hands tremble, our hearts can stand firm. Let fear knock if it must, but don’t open the door without inviting trust in too. Courage isn’t the absence of fear, it’s choosing to trust anyway. So breathe deep, step forward, and let faith write the story.

July 21st – Proverbs 26:17

Proverbs 26:17

Like one who grabs a stray dog by the ears is someone who rushes into a quarrel not their own.”

No one in their right mind would approach an unknown stray dog and grab it by its ears. Because if you did, you’d likely get bit. Similarly, Solomon says when we butt into another’s quarrel, we’re just asking for trouble. In our age of social media, people are quick to jump on the bandwagon of mob thinking. People, even Christians, join heated debates and pile-on criticisms without fully understanding the context. That’s why we need to mind our own business and not get involved with things that don’t concern us. As followers of Jesus, our focus should be on living out His teachings, sharing the Good News, and spreading love. Engaging in unnecessary conflicts can distract us from our true purpose and lead us away from the path of righteousness. By exercising restraint and discernment, we can avoid being drawn into situations that only serve to sow seeds of discord. Minding our own business allows us to prioritize the pursuit of spiritual growth and reflecting the light of Christ in everything we do.

September 29th – 2 Kings 6:16

2 Kings 6:16

When the king of Aram found out that the prophet Elisha was informing the Israelite army of his every move, he sent a great army of his own to surround the city where Elisha and his servant were staying. Filled with despair the servant asked Elisha, “Alas, my master! What shall we do?” (2 Kings 6:15) But Elisha wasn’t afraid. Because through eyes of faith, he saw what God saw. A mountain full of horses and chariots of fire. Often when we look at the troubles facing us, our first response is worry, fear, and despair. We fail to see past our problems to what God sees. And what He sees is victory that comes only from trusting in His power, protection, and provision. The Lord will always provide the resources we need to get through any challenge. Elisha prayed for his servant’s eyes to be opened. We too need to pray for open eyes of faith. Eyes that allows us to rest in the knowledge that even if we can’t see them, we are surrounded by a mountain full of horses and chariots of fire.
