Psalm 15

Who may live with almighty God in heaven? If the list of requirements in Psalm 15 sound impossible, it’s supposed to be. Because the truth is, we can’t realize our need for Jesus until we understand how impossible it is for us to achieve God’s holiness. Romans 3:23 reminds us, “all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God”.  We are all guilty. And everyone of us needs a Redeemer. This is why we must depend on Jesus. Because He is the One who can save, cleanse, and prepare us to dwell in His tent forever. In all the world, the Lord alone walked in perfect righteousness. And when we abide in Him and His power, we too can walk the path of righteousness. Never will we be shaken! And one glorious day, we will dwell with the Lord forever on God’s holy hill!

Proverbs 16:9

Do you ever wonder if what you’re doing is what God wants you to be doing? If we’re following the leading of the Holy Spirit instead of our own, we can have confidence that we are acting in God’s time and with His purpose. Better yet, we can trust that if God wills it, His power will open the doors to make it happen. As we commit ourselves to our Heavenly Father, we know He will lead us day by day and His plans will prevail. Look at the apostle Paul. He had his own ideas and plans, yet he was always willing to instead follow the Lord. And look at the amazing things that resulted in Paul’s obedience! Have you submitted to the Lord your willingness to be open to whatever opportunities He gives you? Are willing to follow the Spirit wherever He leads?

Romans 15:13

I love how Paul refers to our heavenly Father as the God of hope. Because hope, joy, and peace, aren’t things we wish for just around the holidays. As a Christian, God wants everyday to be filled with the hope, joy, and peace that He alone provides. Each day through the power of His Spirit dwelling inside us, can be a good one no matter the circumstance. Our spirits fill with hope knowing that God wants only the best for us. And He always fulfills His promises. We have hearts that overflow with joy from the great love God has for us. A love shown in the daily blessings we receive. And we can rest in perfect peace when we see God as our refuge. Because when we make Him our safe place, we are tucked safely under the wings of the Creator of the universe!

April 27th – Romans 6:1-7

Romans 6:1-7

‭‭When Christ was crucified, He broke the dominion of sin over man. Now as believers, although sin may vex us, it will not dominate us. Because when Christ was resurrected, we were also spiritually resurrected. At the moment we receive Christ as our Savior, God goes to work on our fleshly heart of stone. He begins molding it into one that is alive and pulsing with desire to glorify Him. No longer do we desire to continue walking in sin. It’s a process of surrender, and a process that can be accomplished by God alone. Everyday He is at work within our circumstances, emotions, experiences and deepest desires. And it’s our job to let Him do His. This may require hard times and struggles, but God will prevail. He will dig out and uproot every enticement of sin in our lives, giving us victory over each one!

1 John 4:16 

God is my Master, Lord, Savior, Friend, and Father. And as full as my heart is for Him, what makes it burst at the seams is the love that He in turn feels for me. Too many times the Gospel of Jesus Christ is preached with a heavy hand in sin, and a light hand in love. While it’s true that God detests sin, it’s also true that God loves us in spite of that sin. And when we receive Christ as our Savior, He takes those filthy rags of sin we clothe ourselves in, and exchanges them for pure white robes of righteousness. Next, God sends Holy Spirit to take up permanent residence inside of us, who gets to work changing and molding us into the likeness of Jesus. And all of this God does not because we love Him, but because He loves us! And from that great love, no matter how dirty, broken, or sinful we are, He yearns to call us His own. God wants to pick up us, dust off the dirt, wipe away our tears, replace our sorrow with joy, and make us royalty in His kingdom forever.

Romans 8:26 

Isn’t it comforting to know that God’s Spirit takes the deepest prayers of our hearts and not only beautifies them, but perfects them? And He promises to answer them in the way that is in our best interest? Just think for a moment how deeply we are loved. How God longs for sweet fellowship with us and to bless us in spite of ourselves. But why? Why has God provided all we need to help us when we can’t even find the words to pray?

The reason is because God wants to show us the riches of the glory of His grace. The Holy Spirit creates those deep groanings and then carries them to the Father. Our Father who not only hears, but performs what the Spirit asks, ultimately bringing God the glory. When we are battle worn and weary. When we don’t know how to pray, or at a complete lost for words, He knows!

The One who searches our hearts and knows our thoughts before one is ever spoken, stands ready to intercede on our behalf. And we can trust that God will bring about the circumstances which magnify Christ in the best way and bless us as well. What an awesome God! Full of grace and mercy, He has planned for even our times of weakness and loves us far more than even we could ever comprehend!

March 10th – Acts 16:25-26

Acts 16:25-26

In today’s verses we find Paul and Silas praying and singing hymns of praise while they were in prison. But most amazing, is what the previous verses describe. “When they had struck them with many blows, they threw them into prison, commanding the jailer to guard them securely; and he, having received such a command, threw them into the inner prison and fastened their feet in the stocks.” (Acts 16:23-24)

Can you imagine how terribly hurt they were? Yet in spite of this, they, “were praying and singing hymns of praise to God, and the prisoners were listening to them;” (16:25). They had the strength to praise God! They had joy in their hearts and they wanted everyone else to know!! There was a Godly purpose for their suffering and all the circumstances they faced.

Let me ask you this. When you have been in a painful situation, “imprisoned” in distress and difficulties, did you immediately praise God? Did you feel there was a Godly purpose in all this? Although it’s difficult in our own strength, through the power of the Holy Spirit, it can be done. Joy is an attribute of the Fruit of the Holy Spirit, and it is available to each one of us. But we must ask in prayer for this to be a continual reality in us!

I pray that each one of us can experience the same joy that Paul and Silas treasured in their hearts: the joy of His Salvation!  And may we be able to sing in joy for everyone to witness what He has done in our lives!

Zephaniah 3:17

We all have fears. Some rational, others not. And all have felt the grip of panic that comes with anxiety. The one that feels like a storm raging inside. A violence which causes our thoughts to swirl madly, our hearts to beat wildly, and our chests to tighten beyond breathing. But as with any storm, there is an eye. That place of stillness. A calmness which always appears in the middle of even the strongest hurricane. God is that eye of the storm. A victorious Savior, He calms the seas and quiets our storms with His love.

When we’re filled with fear and anxiety, unable to shut off our thoughts, we crave God’s quietness. To be able to just let it all go and rest in His perfect peace. Peace stemmed from the deep, unconditional love He has for each of us, His precious children. His love for us is so great, our Father in heaven rejoices with great shouts of joy, and songs of everlasting devotion!

And because of His gift of the Holy Spirit, He now lives inside each of us forever. Never again do we have to face the storms of life alone, nor give in to fear and anxiety. For when we stand in the eye of the storm, there we will find the blue skies and sunshine of God’s perfect peace. All we have to do is be still, and focus on His quietness, promises and love.

The next time you find yourself struggling with your thoughts and spiraling out of control with fear, go to God in prayer immediately. Ask Him to calm your spirit and fill your heart with His peace. Receive His gladness. Let His quietness push away the storm clouds of anxiety. And let God’s love shine upon you like the rays of the summer sun appearing after the rain.

Ephesians 4:11-16

As we pack up Christmas and look forward to the New Year, let’s take time to reflect on the gifts of God. For His blessings are not limited to the birth of His Son. The minute we receive Jesus as our Savior, the Holy Spirit comes to live within us. And with Him, He brings some pretty incredible gifts. God’s church is made up of the body of Christ. And each Christian is a valuable part of that body. Why? Because the Holy Spirit bestows specific gifts unique to only us. Think of that! We have a God given purpose that only we can fulfill. Our Creator painstakingly equips us with marvelous gifts designed to work in harmony with the gifts of fellow believers. All with the goal of performing as a perfectly tuned orchestra for the glory and purposes of God. And He counts each one as valuable as the next!

Colossians 3:15

With the holiday season upon us, wishes of “peace on earth and goodwill to men” fill the hearts of people around the world. But for Christian’s, the peace of Christ should rule in our hearts everyday, not just at Christmas. When we receive Jesus as our Savior, wonderful things begin to happen. First, we become adopted members of God’s family. Next, the Holy Spirit enters and gets to work transforming us into the likeness of Jesus. He begins by softening the rough edges of our heart. Next He takes out the garbage, and replaces it with the joy, love, and peace of Christ. A peace we are to let reign in our lives, and a peace we are to extend especially to fellow Believers. For we are each valuable members of the body of Christ. And out of thankfulness for the grace shown to us, we need to show the peace of Christ to a world that is anything but.
