Acts 2:38 

I am thankful for the gift of the God’s Holy Spirit 

While Jesus walked the earth, He was able to physically minister to His followers. Personally, He provided hands on strength, healing, and teaching. But soon He would return to sit at the right hand of God. And so He told the disciples, “I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may be with you forever.” (John 14:26) That Helper is the Holy Spirit. A Helper not reserved for the disciples alone, but for each of us as well. For the very minute we receive Jesus Christ as our Savior, the Holy Spirit comes to indwell in us. There He begins the work of shaping and conforming us into the likeness of Jesus. And not only is He sent to help, comfort, and guide us, the Holy Spirit is also God’s seal on us. He marks us as His very own for the day of redemption. Our Father knows all too well how frail we are. So in His great love, He sent His precious Spirit to help us in all things!

Romans 7:18

Christian author, Lysa TerKeurst once wrote, “You are more than the sum total of your feelings and perfectly capable of that little gift from Jesus called self-control.” Being a Christian means no more excuses for sin or being satisfied with merely the desire to do better. And no more saying, “I can’t help it, the temptation is too great.” Jesus faced every temptation we ever will. And the same power He had to walk in righteousness is available to us. Satan knows our weakness. And He takes great glee in dangling the carrot of sin before us. But God has always been one step ahead. He knew left to our own devices, we’ll choose sin every time. That’s why in His great love and mercy, He provided a way out. When we receive Christ as our Savior, the Holy Spirit indwells us. And through Him we have the strength to triumph over sin, win every battle, and overcome any temptation. So claim the power that is yours, and never again fear the enticement of the Enemy!

Luke 6:16

Judas was a man who stole from the poor, betrayed Jesus for 30 pieces of silver, and ultimately hung himself in the potter’s field. But before we’re quick to condemn, we need to examine our own hearts. And look for any traces that might reveal Judas in us. Things like sitting in church every Sunday and declaring Jesus as Lord with our lips, but not our hearts. Or remembering God only when we need something from Him. And calling Him King merely as a way to achieve our own throne and glory. Judas repaid the kindness of Jesus with treachery. And he only regretted his actions because of the consequences they brought. Not because of the deep pain they cause the Lord. As Christians, bursting with gratitude for Jesus’ sacrifice, our hearts should grieve when we cause Him to grieve. And work hand in hand with the Holy Spirit to remove any thing in our lives that is a betrayal to the One who gave His life to save ours.

August 18th – 2 Corinthians 3:18

2 Corinthians 3:18

Because of His great love, God shows His kindness by refusing to leave us as He found us. Which is why at the moment of salvation, the Holy Spirit indwells our hearts. Immediately He gets to work transforming us into the likeness of Christ, from glory to glory. One step at a time. Not an easy transformation. Because the Christian walk isn’t a weekend getaway, it’s a lifelong journey of growth and change. And there will be times when that change is hard, frustrating, and painful. Days when it’s two steps forward and three steps back. But if we keep seeking God, and allow the Holy Spirit to work both in and through us, change will come. We are all God’s glorious works in progress. And one day we will be perfect reflections of His image and glory. But until then, keep trusting the Lord and moving forward. And praise God that although we may not be where we want to be, we’re not where we used to be!

August 7th – 1 John 3:1

1 John 3:1

God didn’t hold back His goodness waiting for Saul, the persecutor of Jews, to become Paul, the apostle of Christ. Instead He showed grace, love, and kindness to Saul while he was knee deep in his wretchedness. Because God doesn’t want us waiting to come to Him until we’re “all cleaned up”, and ready to go. He wants us to come to Him as we are, dirty, broken, and hurting. To leave the cleaning up to Him. For He showers us with His Spirit who washes us anew, working to mold us into the image of Christ. The truth is, in our own wretchedness we could never get our filthy rags clean enough to stand before Almighty God. So in His unmerited kindness and love, He sent His only Son, Jesus Christ. Through whose shed blood we can be transformed from a Paul to a Saul, and most wonderful of all, be called children of God.

John 14:26

Our Father knows all too well how frail we are. He understands that there is no way we can do what He asks of us on our own. And so He sent a Helper in the form of His Holy Spirit. God’s Spirit not only gives us the strength to do all the Lord commands, but from the moment He indwells in us He gets to work. What is His work? To change us from the inside out into the likeness of Jesus. The Holy Spirit  is God with us in all things. He convicts us of our sins, and assures us of God’s forgiveness. His help is essential in leading lives that are pleasing to our Father. And most wonderful of all, He puts upon us a seal for the day of redemption.(Eph. 4:30).  That means not only is the Spirit sent to help, comfort, and guide us, He is also God’s seal on us marking us as God’s very own!

June 6th – 2 Corinthians 5:6-7

2 Corinthians 5:6-7

The older I get, the more I long for my promised glorified body. One that no longer knows sickness, pain, and decay. A perfect body clothed in a beautiful white garment provided by my Lord. And one which no longer sins against God or carries the shame of my failures. But until that day, while I wait for that glorious transformation, the apostle Paul tells me I am to walk by faith and not sight. But what exactly does this mean? It means living a life of faith, glorifying God in all I do. And courageously making all of my decisions not based on what the world says, but what the Bible says. Walking by faith means that no matter the circumstance, I will obey God, trust in Him alone, and the guiding of His Holy Spirit. And even though my earthly body will grow frail, never will my love for the Lord!

Job 26:14

Martin Luther once said, “The power of God cannot be so determined and measured, for it is uncircumscribed and immeasurable, beyond and above all that is or may be.” Have you ever experienced something so glorious, that words just couldn’t do it justice? That’s how Job felt when trying to describe the awesomeness of God. But then, what words could come close of being worthy to describe the One who makes the pillars of heaven tremble and quiets the sea with His power? And as mighty and great our God is, even more amazing is how He makes that power available to each of us. Through prayer, the blood of Christ, and the Holy Spirit, we have immediate access to the same power that allowed Jesus to walk on water!

Jeremiah 9:24

It’s been said that humility doesn’t mean thinking less of yourself, but thinking of yourself less. And there’s no better example of this than Christ. From start to finish, Jesus always put the will of the Father before His own. He never boasted of His great power, nor sought His own glory. Instead, the Lord’s joy was found in being a servant. He gave His life to give us the grace we don’t deserve. And apart from Him, there is nothing in us worth boasting about. No amount of money, fame, or power can stack up against the privilege of calling Jesus, Lord. The mighty Creator of the universe left His glorious throne in heaven to come to earth to save you and me! And through the blood of His Son, we get the amazing honor of calling Him Father. And through the indwelling of His Spirit, the wondrous privilege of knowing Him intimately! Now that’s something for Believers to brag about!

Romans 7:15

Do you ever get frustrated because you ask God for forgiveness then keep going back to the sin? Paul understood very well the struggle all Christian’s face. Wanting to do what is right before the Lord, but doing exactly the opposite. The truth is until we get to heaven, we will be under the influence of sin. But no matter the temptation, because we have the Spirit of the living God inside of us, we have the power to say no. The Spirit longs for us to turn to Him in every spiritual conflict. To lean on Him in our times of weakness, and draw from His unlimited  power. Do you feel like you’re fighting a losing battle? Trapped in a cycle of sin, unable to break free? Turn to the Lord. For His mighty power can break any bondage. And rejoice, giving thanks to God. Because our deliverance isn’t dependent on ourselves but “through Jesus Christ our lord.” (7:25)
