Psalm 8:1

Did you know that psalm 8 was the first Biblical text to reach the moon? It traveled into space on Apollo 11 on a disc that had messages from seventy-three countries. It was included in a text submitted by the Vatican. The disc now rests in an aluminum case on the Moon’s Sea of Tranquility. Psalm 8 is a beautiful expression of worship to God. And a wonderful description of the power of His majestic work in creation. Everything about God is magnificent, praiseworthy, and perfect. And in comparison we are but a speck in this vastness of the cosmos. Yet the Creator of the universe places His love and unwavering attention on us. His love so great, God gave us dominion over all of His creation, and sent His only Son to redeem us!

Ephesians 1:18

Throughout the Bible we’re told that God is Light. And from that Light stems goodness, love, and mercy. There are no greater gifts than salvation, and an eternity spent at the Lord’s side. Gifts that God sacrificed His own Son to provide. And gifts that He offers freely to all. That’s why Paul prays that the eyes of our hearts illuminate with the light of God’s hope. The hope of the riches of our inheritance through Jesus Christ. For it is through Christ in which we have become adopted heirs into the kingdom of God. Sons and daughters who no longer walk in darkness but in God’s glorious light. And it also this hope that should be a driving force in our lives. For until that glorious day when we are called home, we should be living a life that glorifies our Lord, reflecting His love in a hurting and dark world.

1 Corinthians 15:10

If there’s anyone who understood grace, it’s Paul. The apostle was once one of the worst persecutors of Christians. Yet instead of being punished, Paul was given God’s most precious mission. To share the Gospel of Jesus Christ with the world. Not because Paul earned it, nor proven himself worthy. For no one can ever be good enough to earn a perfect God’s perfect favor. But all because of the unmerited mercy of our Lord. The definition of grace is getting what we don’t deserve and not getting what we do. The sin we commit comes with the penalty of death. But because of His amazing love, God sent His Son to take the punishment we deserve, giving us the undeserved gift of forgiveness, and eternal life. It was God’s grace that empowered Paul’s transformation. And if we let Him, God will transform us as well.

April 26th – Luke 23:32-43

Luke 23: 32-43

Luke tells us as Jesus hung on the Cross, He wasn’t alone. Because two other men, each a criminal, hung on either side of Him. Have you ever wondered why there were three crosses that fateful day and the significance of each? The answer is redemption, repentance, and rejection. The cross which bore our Savior is one of redemption. Jesus our Redeemer died for the sins of the world. And with His blood we are reconciled with the Father. The other two crosses, the thieves which hung to His left and right, represent the choice we must make.

On one side of Christ was a thief hurling insults at Him, taunting the Lord to save them if He could. His is the cross of rejection. He didn’t receive Jesus as His Savior, nor was he sorry for all he had done. Instead he was simply searching for a way out of his predicament. On the other side was a man whose cross represents one of repentance. In faith and reverence he requests, “Lord, remember me when You come into Your kingdom.” Christ’s answer? “Assuredly, I say to you today you will be with Me in Paradise.” So which cross will you choose? Eternal separation from God, or paradise with Jesus?

April 23rd – 1 John 4:16

1 John 4:16 

God is my Master, Lord, Savior, Friend, and Father. And as full as my heart is for Him, what makes it burst at the seams is the love that He in turn feels for me. Too many times the Gospel of Jesus Christ is preached with a heavy hand in sin, and a light hand in love. While it’s true that God detests sin, it’s also true that God loves us in spite of that sin. And when we receive Christ as our Savior, He takes those filthy rags of sin we clothe ourselves in, and exchanges them for pure white robes of righteousness. Next, God sends Holy Spirit to take up permanent residence inside of us, who gets to work changing and molding us into the likeness of Jesus. And all of this God does not because we love Him, but because He loves us! And from that great love, no matter how dirty, broken, or sinful we are, He yearns to call us His own. God wants to pick up us, dust off the dirt, wipe away our tears, replace our sorrow with joy, and make us royalty in His kingdom forever.

Luke 2

I can’t imagine what it would have been like to be the chosen mother of the Savior of the world. Most of the time she probably saw him as just an ordinary child. But then there were those special times. Times when Mary was reminded that Jesus was destined for so much more than her heart could fathom. It can be a hard thing to trust God’s plans for our loved ones. Naturally we want to protect them from hardship, trials and pain. And Mary was no different. Yet she was wise enough to trust God and His ultimate plan, “treasuring all these things in her heart.” We too have to trust God and His plans for our lives and the lives of our loved ones. We may not understand all of the whys in this life. But we can trust that God can make something beautiful out of every heartache. Because He always has a higher purpose and a plan of salvation for us all.

Hebrews 4:15

Does it comfort you to know that the Creator and Lord of the universe knows you personally? Every detail about you; your interests, fears, and failures. He knows what upsets you and what brings you joy. God knows our hearts, desires, and thoughts. (1 Chron. 28:9) And He regards us as the apple of His eye, taking  delight in each of us. (Zec. 2:8, Is. 62:4) Because of all He endured, the Lord empathizes with our weaknesses” (Heb. 4:15) Suffering what He did from out of a love so great that He laid down His life for us, His friends. (John 15:13) And as such, He is our perfect, great, High Priest. For like A.W. Tower says, “Many men can be touched by the sorrow of another, but they are not touched with the sorrow.  It is one thing to see pain but another thing to be touched with the feeling of it. Our pain, depression, trembling, and sensitiveness. Jesus was touched with these though he did not fall into sin that so often comes of them. We must treasure this view of our Lord’s sympathy, for it may be a great support in the hour of agony and weakness.”

Revelation 13:8

In the books of the Old Testament we’re told that a blood sacrifice was needed to atone for sin. And God’s plan from the beginning was to reconcile us to back to Himself through the blood of Christ. Before the world was formed, before Adam took his first breath, God knew how man would fall. Because of this, in His infinite love and wisdom, He predetermined for His Son to pay the sin debt for all. The Lamb of God, Jesus Christ, freely offered Himself as the perfect and final blood sacrifice. And He did so to save us from death and give us eternal life. “The Lamb was slain from the creation of the world”. How amazing is it that even before we were born, and knowing all of the sins we would commit, God had already provided our path back to Him!

Hebrews 12:2

“I love you.” “How much?” “SO much.” “How much is so?” “Way, Way more than you know.” This comes from a book I used to read to my son entitled, “I Love You So…” by Marianne Richmond. It’s a beautiful story about the unconditional love a parent feels for a child. It perfectly expresses the height and depth of the love I have for my son, and reminds me of that same love Jesus has for us. His entire life here on earth from birth to death, was a perfect, shining testimony to the selfless love He so freely offers to all. Even while hanging on a Cross in excruciating pain, and until He breathed His last, He demonstrated grace, mercy, and love until the end.

Tortured and nailed to a cross, no one would blame Jesus for being so overwhelmed by His pain and suffering, that He could think of nothing else. Yet instead He repeatedly demonstrated His incredible love for others; never wavering in His grace and mercy. And Christ endured all of this; the wounds, humiliation, and shame for the “joy set before Him.” What is this joy? It’s you, it’s me, and all who would be saved through His death and resurrection. With His never ending love He gave His life, and with His dying breath He gave us life. Never again will we find condemnation, for as Jesus cried, “It is finished!” (John 19:30)

1 Peter 2:24-25

With each strike of the whip, the flesh of Jesus was savagely ripped open. Bruised, bloody, and beaten beyond recognition, the suffering Christ endured was beyond compare. Only to be followed by an agonizing, criminal’s death on the Cross. And Jesus suffered all of this for us. He willingly took our flogging, beating, and death. He bore our sins and paid our debt, so we could be free. Because of the Lord’s shed blood, no longer are we condemned, dead in our trespasses, and trapped in the bondage of sin. By His wounds we have been healed from the penalty, poison, and price of sin. Because with every stripe our Savior endured, He paid in full every sin we have or will commit. Through His glorious death and resurrection, we are free to live a righteous life that glorifies Christ and His amazing sacrifice!
